Problem Found
Well, I found out what was giving me grief while I was trying to get my desktop put back together...it was the video card. So I'll be getting a new video card soon. Nothing fancy...ok, it's an nVidia Cinema 5700FX...it'll get me through the next 2 or 3 years before I upgrade. I may even transform that into a MythTV box when it is no longer in service as my main computer. We'll see.
